ON HER WAY

For as long as she can remember, singer/songwriter Meagan Taylor, 18, has been passionate about music.

When her father’s business abroad took the family from Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada to Panama for a year, in 2006, it orchestrated a chain of events that set the stage for a red-hot career path for Meagan and her music.

Meagan fell in love with the culture, the language, the dance and the heartbeat of Panama, which added a unique sound and feel to her music. She had discovered the hot, gritty sound of reggaeton.

When she auditioned for a local DJ named DJ Q from Super Q radio, one of Panama’s most loved radio stations, DJ Q suggested that Meagan speak to a notable Panamanian producer, Ricky Ramirez from ContraXenas Studios. And from this point, Meagan’s professional life as a singer was on its way.

Meagan auditioned for Ricky Ramirez and ContraXenas Studios. They were excited about the direction of her music and she was offered the opportunity to work with some incredible talent to produce both an album and a video.

In 2007, Meagan released her first solo album, self-titled simply ‘MEAGAN’. The album is an eclectic mix of rhythm and blues, hip-hop, reggaeton, rock beats and folk; a celebration of difference that embodies Meagan’s love and appreciation for the wonderful mosaic of life.

It was Meagan’s Spanish song “Rojo Caliente”, performed with reggaeton legend Toby King that caught the imagination of the Panamanian public and propelled her to star status in Panama. Typically, reggaeton is a hot and edgy genre. However, in Rojo Caliente (meaning Red Hot, in English), Meagan has managed to pump up the heat while keeping some distance from the edge. It’s safe and still exciting and, significantly, has been championed by reggaeton veterans. Reggaeton was in her soul and she got it right!

The lyrics of ‘Rojo Caliente’ are about having it all, doing it all and enjoying it all. It means enjoying having nice stuff, but enjoying being yourself at the same time - following your dreams and loving life. It’s a celebration of our differences and recognition of the unique nature of each of us. It’s a victory song for the red-hot self -image of every young person

On March 31st, 2007, Meagan performed, alongside international artists, at the extravaganza that was the National Modelling Competition, aired on Panamanian national television. This was a big moment for Meagan. From that point on Meagan belonged to the international world of music.

Passionate about every aspect of her colourful, multi-faceted life, Meagan plans to secure a university education that will give her the tools she needs to manage her own music career. With the voice of an angel, the red-hot confidence she espouses in ‘Rojo Caliente’ and a loving, supportive family, Meagan is poised on the fast track to her dream.
